Impact 100 Owensboro awards St. Benedict’s a $100,000 grant

On Oct. 14, the members of Impact 100 awarded St. Benedict’s Shelter for  Men a $100,000 grant to be used to renovate the shelter’s antiquated bathroom.

Currently, the shelter has a bathroom that was built in the 1960s.  It contains only two sinks, three working showers and four toilets — for up to 64 men a night.

Because of its ever-changing client population, St. Benedict’s men’s shelter serves up to 500 clients a year.

Besides being overcrowded, their restroom has residential-grade plumbing and fixtures, which causes large plumbing bills annually.

St. Benedict’s officials long have dreamed of renovating that bathroom.

Thanks to the Impact 100 grant, the client restroom will be made new with commercial-grade plumbing, low-flow fixtures and locker-room style urinals and showers.  Plans for the new bathroom will accommodate far more men at a time.

In addition to renovating the bathroom, Impact 100’s grant will be used to upgrade client washers and dryers, which currently are in the restroom area.  Those appliances will be moved out of the restroom to make more room for bathroom facilities.  Also, the appliances will be upgraded to three premium-grade washers and dryers.

This project would not have been possible without the generosity of the members of Impact 100 Owensboro.  To learn more about Impact 100 Owensboro, go to Impact100Owensboro.org.
